You think so? I try to contact TD Waterhouse but it's almost impossible to reach someone at this time. They might be very busy. This was a compulsive buy... If you say it's too late to be eligible for Sprott special dividend I almost believe you... But I have a contact at TD that I can write too. Anyone who has questions can actually email TD Waterhouse. And that's what I am going to do! I will let you know their answer.
"I have verified the information and I am sorry to report that you do not qualify for the Special Dividend of $0.60. Since you purchased your new 500 shares on Monday January 17th – your trade will settle on Thursday January 20th. As you can see in the press release that special dividend will be paid to shareholders of record at the close of business on January 19th, 2011. In order for you to qualify for the dividend, you should have bought your shares on January 14th."
Ronaldco, your too bright and I am not. I should purchase my stocks earlier, but really have no clue.
You always have to buy the stock the day before the ex-dividend date to receive the dividend. You can see the date in td when you look at the stock detailled quote.
And alot of time, as in this case, especially with a special dividend, the stock will go down some after the ex-dividend date.
We learn from our mistakes, next time you'll be more careful.
On another note, the market has been good to us in the last few months, I wonder if it's time to start locking in some profit. I have a feeling, a correction might be coming, but on the other hand, I hate selling dividend stocks

I’m a proud French Canadian from New Brunswick with a passion for investing. On August 5, 2009, I hit a major milestone: reaching $50,000 in investment assets. This initial achievement was just the beginning of a lifelong journey toward financial independence. My ultimate aim isn’t necessarily early retirement but rather the freedom to live comfortably, achieve my goals, and enjoy financial peace of mind. Every journey starts with a first step, and for me, that was my first $50,000. Feel free to reach out and say hello at myfirst50000 (at) yahoo.ca—I’d love to connect!

Hi Ronaldco,
your comments always make a lot of sense. You are so knowledgeable!
Yeah, it's no big deal as you said. I will catch up with the special dividend of Just Energy, which haven't been announced yet, but it shouldn't wait.
I am not use to purchase stocks for its dividend only. I am learning the hard way, all the way :0)
