New Flyer Industries Inc. (NFI.UN): an investment for the long run

On March 22, 2011, New Flyer Industries Inc. (NFI.UN) released its Q4 results. The results were of -10% compare to last year. This disappointed investors and lead to a massive 12% (or close) lost in NFI.UN trading value. In my case, we are taking of around 250$ lost in NFI.UN this week alone.

To sell or not to sell New Flyer Industries Inc. (NFI.UN)? That’s the question I have in mind. I don’t understand the panic as were only taking about a 10% off.

NFI.UN orders from the US hasn’t been like expected and 2011 had been announced as being challenging one for New Flyer Industries Inc. (NFI.UN). Good, because I like challenge! I read quite a bit about NFI.UN. The investors who didn’t like NFI.UN sell, and the ones, like myself who don’t mind about a 10% loss stick and hold to NFI.UN. That’s what happens this week. One of my reader and expert investor actually told me it was a good time to buy NFI.UN.

So far, no announcement had been made regarding NFI.UN dividend. New Flyer Industries Inc. (NFI.UN) is a leader in its field. The company is located in Winnipeg (got to love the wild Canadian West) and builds beautiful bus for public transportation. It’s not an easy sector, but NFI.UN worth the hold. It’s a good company and deserved to be hold in what Gordon Pape would probably name “in time of uncertainty”.

I taught about selling, but NFI.UN brings in a nice diversification inside my portfolio. With what I hold in New Flyer Industries Inc. (NFI.UN) and Student Transportation (STB), I can say I am now an expert in public transportation stocks. Will my loyalty in New Flyer Industries Inc. (NFI.UN) pay off? That’s what we’ll find out in the upcoming months. Never sell a quality challenging stock in period of uncertainty! New Flyer Industries Inc. (NFI.UN) deserved to be HOLD.

  1. I like, and am holding Student Transportation(STB) stocks which I bought at $5.50, but I have nothing to say about NIF.UN, and I'm not interesting know that company too.

  2. Sunny, Remember you sold SPB when there was uncertainty. As mentioned earlier with these dividend stocks, you have a better chance of picking a good exit point. Good Luck.

  4. Hi V, I got your point. But Superior was already a trouble stock when I invest in it. The dividend temptation was too high. with NFI.UN, things are completely different. Its a leader in its field and always been well manage, from my point of view. It deserved a bit more consideration. I plan to hold NFI.UN for now.

  6. Student Transportation had done very well lately! Don't wait too long before adding it to your portfolio because this one seem to quickly gain in value these days! Use your margin, your credit card, whatever else, but you got to have STB in my portfolio. Its a must have :)

My initial investment value in STB was of: 1 281.99$.

As for now, the same investment worth 1 394$.

    That equal a 112.01$ gain!

    Youhou!

  7. I already own STB, I bought some a year ago and am up 30% not including the dividends, needless to say I like the stock :)

    I think I might buy some NFI.UN
I've been looking at it since you first posted about it and it's come down in price. I have to sell something though, maybe MCB as it's dividend is smaller than I thought, much much smaller.

And Sunny, I want to thank you for your recent posts, I've only been following you a short time but I would have never bought HZU or DGI.UN or EIF or JE if you hadn't mentioned them here.

  8. Hi Pattirose,

Nice to hear about your profit made with STB. I had buy STB a few weeks ago after hearing about it in a reader comment. Did you know, someone of their management send me an email... I guess they love the publicity made on my blog. But it was deserved. Good gain, good dividend, reliable company. Can't really ask for more.

DGI.UN is also a new investment of this year.

JE is my all time favorite. Currently exploding the 15$ value per stock. WOW!

DNI is a penny stock that I had been holding for a real long time. To be keep for the long term and maybe it will pay off later.

HZU is a bit more volatile. Be ready for a roller coaster ride! But still good if you have no problem to deal with market ups and downs.

NFI.UN worth the buy. But 2011 had been announced as a challenging year for them.
