HI Sunny...did you sell just energy stocks as i didn't see them in your list of stocks for dividends? I have sold 100 but am looking at getting rid of them all. thank goodness for the dividends as it makes for a small loss.
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth,
ReplyDeleteI didn't received my Just Energy dividend yet, but I should be receiving them soon. I am not looking forward to sell my JE stocks. I won't tell you what to do, but selling JE at this time is not a good idea.
HI Sunny...they appear to be in danger of single digit..i just was a bit overloaded in them for the dividend but i might sell 100 more and put it into longview oil, it looks like a promising stock and am learning when to get the heck out when they make a turn downward. Pengrowth is another one i am a bit concerned over...but am keeping it so far.
ReplyDeleteSunny: K Bro Linen is a bit of a strange company. Three customer lines: hospitals, cruise ships, hospitality. Predominately west coast oriented, doesn't seem to have other market pentration. Its interesting that the hospital linen industry is dominated by not-for-profit companies made of consolidated hospital laundries.Cruise ships, well I don't know how much is laundry is done onboard & how much waits until port. Not sure of long term viability of business model or expansion.
ReplyDeletecapital gains are nice but what we really want to know is what have been the best dividend picks!
ReplyDeleteHI Sunny...nice gains but are you going to list the loss stocks...i think just energy will be shorted like yellow media.....looks like pengrowth is making a comeback. there is nothing like buying good solid blue chips as it sure proves they grow.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous..one of the best dividend picks is just energy which is down about 35% in capital , so what good is a high dividend if your paying it back to yourself? Enbridge is less and solid and capital growth to name one.
ReplyDeleteRuth... Just sying that Sunny's initial investment strategy may have unconciously drifted over time... And also that perhaps there is too much focus on random week to week market volatility (ie is the protfolio up this week?). As Sunny says it takes her a lot of time and effort to post updates to show her portifolio value. Also too much short term thinking may be distracting from more important considerations?... If you are buying a good quality stock that pays dividends then a short term decline may actually be a buying opportunity (and if its not a quality stock and its more than just a short term decline then you obviously shouldnt have bought for any reason)... Not saying that any of these is the case here but just maybe its worth to pause for thought once in a while.
ReplyDeleteI am surprise by your comment because for the most major part, what I buy, I hold it for a long time. It's been the case with BNS, PPL, ENF, RSI, JE, KBL MX and a bunch of other.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you know exactly what you are talking about when it come to my portfolio and my investment style.
The portfolio is long to update because I do it the old fashion way, one at the time, with my calculator in hands :)
I do it that way because it make me feel the portfolio better. My portfolio is the result of years of accumulation. It's steady and continuous. It's a work of art.
I focus on the long term. But I follow the market on a daily basis. That's what this blog is all about.
Just seemed you were recently drifting away bit by bit from focusing on dividend investing and more and more to chasing cap gains. Ok if you are. Important thing is you thought it all through and it sounds like you have. On the other hand maybe its all just my imagination in which case dont mind me. :)
